The Market Street Story Market Street Cafe has been a local and tourist favorite spot since its creation in 1985. Twenty years ago Joni Gianguzzi got in her motor coach and started driving south, got as far as Hilton Head and decided to drop anchor. That same year Carolyn Baltz thought she was coming just for the summer and has been here ever since. Joni has been a fixture at Market Street almost since the first day the restaurant opened. Carolyn has been working on and off here since 1990. In 1998 the previous owners approached Joni about purchasing the restaurant from them and she immediately called Carolyn. Carolyn, who many remember hearing her cry after dumping a tray of drinks, “I’ll never wait tables again!” somehow agreed to the new adventure. The two have been very fortunate to have had a great staff and wonderful, loyal customers, which makes Market Street the cozy comfortable restaurant it is to this day, and hopefully for many more years to come.
